Giant Anteater on the Llanos
Venezuelan Llanos
Giant Anteater on the Llanos is an original illustration set in Venezuelan Llanos. It lies in equatorial latitudes, where the climate is tropical savanna — a pronounced dry season.
A giant anteater crosses seasonally flooded grassland in side profile, showing an elongated tubular snout, tiny ears, a bold diagonal black-and-white shoulder band and an enormous bushy tail. Low palms stand scattered across the wet plain.
Why does an anteater have no teeth at all?
The snout houses a tongue longer than the head, flicked into ant and termite nests many times a minute — an animal with no teeth at all. The huge tail is a blanket, drawn over the body when sleeping in the open. Flooded grassland with scattered palms is a plain that fills each wet season and dries out completely each dry one.

Part of Animals as location clues — An animal is a range map you can see — but the body is a better clue than the name.
